Lavender Gown FrontLavender Gown Back

This dress I actually finished quite awhile ago...I just forgot to post it!

In my studio 2 class (Draping) for our final project we had to drape and create in fashion fabric a dress of our own design. Being a costume gal, I decided to make my own version of a 40's dress I fell in love with when I was working on costumes for a production of The Women.

My second inspiration was probably the work of designer Geoffery Benne. I'v always loved his use of sheers, bias, and seam placement. When I designed the bodice, I tried to give it as few seams as possible, and the bodice is entirely sheer except for the bust.

Materials/process: Washed lavender/grey organza and black habotai lining, both Polyester. Invizable zipper, hook and thread eye. Bodice and skirt seams are either french seams, or bound in self bias. Hems are corded, for a little extra body.

Note: In the picture you can tell the dress form is wearing a black bra. This is because I attempted to pad-up my schools size 8 dress form to fit me. This solution worked for the horizontal measurements, but not the vertical ones :(

I entered the dress in Threads magazine online "fancy fabric" contest. Here's hoping I win!!! http://www.threadsmagazine.com/item/11453/washed-lavender-organza-dress
